Article in the NYT looking at liberal vs conservative polarization

RE: Article in the NYT looking at liberal vs conservative polarization
I think another part of this, is driven by political correctness. We all used to be assholes to everyone. Gongs for asian characters. Laughing at fat people. Racist towards blacks, jews, poles, gays, trans, women, blonds, etc..

People LOVE being awful to other people. But political correctness started chipping away at that, deeming demographic after demographic off-limits to 'good' people.

So now we have all these people who love hating other people, but instead of it being spread out across all of humanity, it gets directed at a very specific group. So anytime society says "Hey, it's okay to be as shitty as you want to X!" People trample eachother to start laying into them.

To which you say, 'Yeah, but Donald Trump deserves it!' And maybe he does. But we saw it happen to Anne Hathaway for giving a speech that came off as insincere at the Oscars. And the 'good guys' tried to end her career over it.

Basically, people are a bunch of slobbering assholes just waiting to get the okay to attack someone. And for the most part, political opposition is the only acceptable target for a group of them, which makes for some contentiousness.

I'm not saying political correctness is bad. Just that people are bad, and will continue finding a way to be bad.
