Our tariffs on their products should factor in their lack of environmental protections.

It is their lack of environmental protection that makes our environmental protection affordable to our consumers.

If they had environmental protection comparable to ours, our consumer goods would be substantially more expensive, and the substantive reduction in the purchasing power and standard of living of the middle class in this country since the Reagan years will become more apparent, and one or both of the following outcome will eventuate:

1. Reduces appetite to bear any cost for environmental regulation at home and increased susceptibility to the right wing yellow press’s attack on the cost of environmental protection.

2. Accelerated politics of spite and discontent.
