Because it'd bad for the economy 

They use human rights violations to undercut the competition with shit like slavery.

Which a trade war won't resolve 

Democrats should be supporting this. "Chinese rights are human rights! Trade war is on!" Maybe find some charismatic 8yo chinese boy to speak on their behalf. And Republicans should be "Hey if slavery works, maybe we should rethink our position on it. Can't blame them for out innovating us."

Supporting a badly thought through policy that won't benefit anyone and will simply isolate China more .

From China's perspective, it looks like Trump just steering the world economy into the ground is on the table.  That's a great bargaining position.

If you want to cause drive them into a panic and make them resort to extreme measures to protect their economy . If your goal is "fair trade " then this will not get you their .
