I've been doing HIIT work outs at the gym, instead of just plodding along longevity cardio.
The last two times I did it I really pushed it and felt like I was going to quit halfway through the routine. I've never really felt that kind of challenge just doing what I used to do previously which is basically 20 minutes on 3 different machines, sort of fast, steady paced cardio.
I think there's probably some benefits to doing both types of cardio but at the moment this definitely feels way more testing doing the high intensity work out, my lungs are left gasping and my heart pounds like crazy.
The day after the high intensity work out we were doing plank competitions in work again and it felt easier than I remembered, I got to 5 minutes 1 second which beats everyone but one guy who I work with.
On a similar note I got challenged in work as to if I could pick up this huge heavy guy who works with us in a bear hug which I managed to do. Yeh there were girls watching which added to the reason why I had to do it. Other than these silly competitions I try and not be competitive with lifting and all of that, I know too many people who have wrecked their bodies trying to be the biggest and best. I think it's sometimes better to maintain, tone up a bit and add variety to work outs rather than wrecking your joints trying to keep lift heavier and heavier.

Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
