The general position amongst atheists, in my experience, is that we don't know the answer to most of the big questions yet.

Where did the universe come from, if anywhere? Don't know.

Who/what made it, if anyone? Don't know.

Is there some kind of external purpose to a hypothetical (generic) creator? Don't know.

This is about as un-brainwashed as you can be. I feel like I enjoy a pretty objective view about these questions, and the consideration of any evidence presented, because I also don't care about the answers to these questions (except simple scientific curiosity). So I have no investment causing me bias or requiring me to presuppose anything.

It's the fundamentalists like this guy who claim to have all the answers already, and can't bear the idea of anyone disagreeing with them.

However, DNA and the fine-tuned universe does show us where the universe came from, that it was designed by a Designer.  So these big questions are beginning to become answered.  DNA has codes written inside.  To remain brainwashed and act like you are a free thinker despite the proof and evidence is delusional.
