To be more serious now, presently we can more accurately understand the function of the bible. It always has and always will boil down to language. In the past, language received a pass due to population illiteracy. When literacy became a more common reality, those who wanted to promote religion had to evolve through apologetic arguments. One would assume that would have been the end of the religious movement, yet people are constantly and irrationally seeking comfort from unrealistic elements. In the end, what we have arrived at for the present are people so void of reason that a silly mythology makes more sense than reality. Sad, truly sad.
Though I doubt it takes a language expert to know that biblical claims are just those. Claims. There is no historical significance. There is mere mythology attempting to survive during an age of ever increasing reason.
