I care less what people think, as I know only one vision defines me. But my experience is when you remember that vision that defines us, people tend to be pleased with you more, then trying to define people with limited experience and then please them with assumptions you have about them.
In short, the best way to act is to be truthful to yourself and others.
Theism doesn't teach anyone to be truthful to themselves, it teaches them to accept pre packaged answers. Most humans get sold a religion at birth prior to having adult critical thinking skills.
Defending your desires and emotions and traditions are what most humans do, but that does not constitute universal neutral unbiased evidence.
