That's fair enough. It's probably quite a personal matter.
The reason I started the thread was because it would be far more convincing if everyone had the same experience if there is only one god. But I don't expect this to be the case. My hypothesis is that most theists are actively training their brains to enable the kind of dream like states that normally occur during sleep to happen while they are awake. This is why prayer and meditation is a big part of many religions. If correct then we would expect people to have experiences which are taken consistent with their culture and their daily environment, such as the religious imagery they are immersed in and the accents they regularly hear.
well that's nuts.. look in the bible at all the different ways God contacted people.
Deams visions, burning bushes, pillars of smoke and fire, a talking dunkey as a child, as a warior priest, though old prophets, to a flaming toungue to the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts. Not to mention the bible sees us all differently. like different members of the body. why would God appear to a hand as a shoe? or to the ear as a glove? God's message will speak to us indivisually. for example what did doubting thomas need for establish and maintain His faith unto martyrdom? He needed to put his hand in the wound on Jesus' side and in his hands... I need to have the oppertunity to face Christ to spit in his eye/See that all this BS was real. We both Got what we needed. could you imagine poor thomas got what I got? cold you imagine the mix message? (you are not allowed to doubt God) when the oppsite is true. Granted Jesus said blessed are those who can live by faith alone, like the other apsoles, but for people like me people like thomas we need proof and that is EXACTLY what the Holy Spirit is for.
