I believe, as according to Scripture the exact opposite is true.  That it is the unbeliever who knows deep down inside that there is a God.  I think you have this spun around.

I have never for a second believed in the silly notion that a god exists because I was not indoctrinated, and have seen no reason to start believing in my entire 50 years on this planet.

Sorry to hear.  I could tell you the good news of the gospel is that the Son of God Himself clothed Himself in humanity, came to the earth as a servant leader, and died a brutal death on a cross to atone for the sin of man.  All man needs to do is truly believe in Jesus (the Son of God who lives forever) to be saved from what will either be eternal hell fire or annihilation of body and soul.  Those saved will enter paradise upon death.  This is the good news of the gospel.
