Let;s have some fun with an article from forbes..that bastion of liberal propaganda....on the financial cost of segregation....when it;s not even intentional*.

Chicago's Metropolitan Planning Council, an independent local nonprofit civic organization working in the Windy City for more than 80 years, recently released a report (along with its partner the Urban Institute) that sought to quantify the impact of segregation on Chicago, one of the nation's most segregated metropolitan areas.  The report asked a simple question -- what would the economic benefit, if any, to Chicago be if the region's economic and racial segregation ranked in the middle of the nation's 100 largest metro areas, rather than near the top?  Their principal findings were astounding.  By their estimate, Chicago's tangled policies and practices costs it the following:

• $4.4 billion in lost income to African Americans, and an overall metro area GDP of $8 billion;
  
  
• Perhaps as many as 230 lives lost -- median level segregation would mean a drop in the region's homicide rate by 30 percent;
  
  
• 83,000 fewer people in the Chicago region, of all racial and ethnic groups, with college degrees.
  

Or, as the report says, "lost income, lost lives, and lost potential."

Seems concerning....I;m willing to go out on a limb and posit that segregation in the 40;s and 50;s also had an impact, however occluded that might have seemed to your average racist piece of shit. Seems like he might have been fucking himself and not even known it.
