I hate this argument.
It is absolutely TRUE that our politicians have been pulled to the economic right. THAT does not mean as voters we want that. Our politicians are held hostage by our own apathy. Our democratic politicians would not have to compete with republicans on their narrative is our voters would show up in every election.
If we as democrats want to clobber the GOP we have to play hardball. We have to take part. We can protect the private sector and get back to the policies of post WW2 that gave workers rights, that gave America stability. But we cannot do that if we allow the GOP to keep painting us as communists and anti patriotic.
Now is the time to get mean, get dirty and get involved.
Trump is an authoritarian, he has more in common with his tone with despots and little in common with the founders.
