He may well be brilliant in other areas, I don't know. I've only sampled a small amount of his work so far. But he wrote this book, and it's an abomination. I've also watched him weasel his way out of answering theistic questions, and of course the "free speech" debacle. I find him disingenuous.
I've never really watched full length videos trying to dismantle everything Jordan Peterson has said but I can already see misunderstandings in this video.
They read the paragraph.
"The dominance hierarchy however cultural or social it may appear has been around for some half a billion years. It's permanent. It's real."
They claim Jordan Peterson is using an argument from nature to say that hierarchy is inherently good and virtuous because it comes from nature.
Again this is something I haven't heard him say. And he didn't say it in the paragraph they're reading that they appear to think they're correcting.
He says the dominance hierarchy is real and you can see it in nature.
I think I've heard him say that you might not want to get rid of all hierarchy, I might have heard him say that, but I don't think I've heard him say hierarchy is good and virtuous because it comes from nature.
They make this claim and read the paragraph at 7:54 in the video.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
