1. Not wanting to deal with the fallout of your child finding out you deliberately lied to them is not being lazy. It means you have conscience.
2. It's not selfish to want your child to understand you worked hard to get them things they want. If anything it's part of a lesson in work ethic and the importance of gift giving.
Christmas is a sinful celebration where we all get together, pig out on good food (depends on who is cooking
) and exchange gifts and hopefully laughter and good conversation. It's an awesome time of year because, hopefully, you get to be with the people you love and enjoy your time with them. That's it. There's no need for Santa for there to be "magic" in Christmas. The magic is the feeling you get being around people you care about and having a good time with them.
Fairy tales are pointless. It's 2018 and we have unlimited access to information at our fingertips. No need for fairy tales or myths anymore unless they are passed along with specific instructions that identify and separate myth from fact. Even then it isn't necessary, though not necessarily harmful. However, in the case of Santa and other things like it, these actually can be harmful. I remember feeling like my parents and family "tricked me" when I found out Santa wasn't real. It's just a ridiculous, pointless lie that makes kids feel like they've been duped. It's dumb.

If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
