Living in Hawai'i, I believe in Hawaiian sovereignty. Their ohana system of aloha makes them so different from mainlanders. They look at us like were nuts. These islands make us small town folk with Hawaiian pride. I'm proud to be a part of it but it ain't easy getting in and being a part of the large ohanas. Respect comes first!
I think Maui should seek sovereignty alone because O'ahu has it's head up it's ass! Maui was once the federal head of the Kingdom of Hawaii. And all the Islands were once kingdoms this is, until king Kamehameha 1(a chief of the Big Island and united the Big Island under his rule--bloodshed) borrowed a couple cannons from the HAole(without breath, no HA, no aloHA: said because they did not embrace) and blasted his fathers kingdom of Maui. Killing them at I'ao valley which is why the Wailuku river means "river of blood" that runs to a place called Kahului--"The Winning".
K1 then went back to the Big Island, then retook Maui and went on to O'ahu, and after a few attempts, caused Kauai'i to annex. When K1 died, queen Ka'ahumanu(K1's favorite queen), married the king of Ni'ihau and brought that island into the kingdom. In 1893, the United States Marine Corps seized the kingdom from queen Lili'uokalani pissing off Grover Cleveland.
