They hate Harry Potter because they were told to hate Harry Potter. If they were smarter they'd use him.

GHOSTS: Proof of life after death. That would be the big take-away from the books. Dumbledore, Remus, Lily, James, Sirius, Cedric, all souls who persist after the body is destroyed. And the world of Harry Potter is in a Christian UK. Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Christian celebrations. Even Tom Riddle's "tearing his soul apart" would be something they could work into their sermons.

But the knee-jerk reaction to "magic", something JC performed in the NT, won out and they hated him. And their kids couldn't wait to get hold of the books, of course.
