I don't think that anyone was suggesting that someone can just mow into a crowd of protestors with a car.   My understanding of that was that if you are in a bad situation then you have the right to protect yourself, and get out of that situation.   If a person is injured or even killed trying to block your car and your escape from that, then it is a matter of self defense.   I would agree with that.   You go slowly, and they are not allowed to impede your progress. If they attack your car (because they are unhinged crazy people), then that justifies more haste to get out of the situation.  

I think that you need to read more than just the headlines in select articles.

For clarification and precision for those who may have misunderstood my first sentence:  I offer the following modification.

           I don't think that anyone was suggesting that someone should just mow into a crowd of protestors with a car.

Of course if you're a moral subjectivist, then the answer is:   it depends on the person.
