The answer to the original question depends on the colour of the alert.
If it's a red alert then you can't remove it until the alert has been actioned by you.
If it's a yellow or blue alert you can mass clear them as suggested previously.
If it's a bright, blinding, white alert it means someone has broken the bulb and not bothered to replace it.
