Regarding "irregardless" being a word. I dare say it is now, antidisregardless. That's kind of the strength of English as a language is that there is no arbiter of what is proper. I heard once that it was created originally as deliberate word-play humor. Respect-less of whether that is true. The reason most object to it is that the "ir-" and the "-less" are redundant. But I did attend a workshop on black english at which I was told that in some african languages the language works differently with multiple suffixes or prefixes being used for emphasis rather than logically cancelling out.
