I will give my opinion: Some games can be considered art, while other games cannot, the same way not every book or movie is art.
So indeed, games have the potential to be art. What matters is the "work" in itself, and not the medium, in my opinion.
What are your thoughts?
To answer this, we'll have to define what art is!
Am I correct in thinking that you assign a sense of quality to the meaning of the term "art"? That is, you hold that a work of art will be of more value or depth (or something), than a mere work of entertainment? That's one possibility.
Or we could say that there is good art and bad art, and that most junk we see is art, but it's bad art.
Here's a qualification I find interesting: does a work of art reveal us to ourselves, as good Freudian therapy is said to do, or does it serve to cover us over with increased misunderstanding, in a kind of reverse psychotherapy, as most TV shows do?
