Nope. It was always going to happen that way. Neither Odin nor Loki were capable of changing their fates. Odin tried, gave up alot for it...but the final result was a comment on the futility of the endeavor, as all of his efforts simply built to the end that by needs must come. The worst thing that Loki ever did was an honest accident. Baldur was supposed to be immortal. From that point onward it was a downward spiral for him..the consequences of a primal animus, beyond any persons control, having laid just beneath the surface since the ice and the mist stretched forth their hands becoming the prelude to the end.
Just a fun aside.
