Mario Party is a great family game. I grew up on those games, as well as Mario Kart. So many wonderful memories!

I'm not sure how you feel about fighting games, for your 8 year old at least, but Super Smash Bros Ultimate looks like another great addition to the franchise. I played the original Nintendo 64 game back when I was 6 or 7, it's a great competitive game to play with family, and isn't overly violent.
