Well the foreign policy of the United States has traditionally be led by the profit motive. We saw it with the Banana Wars, we saw it in the Kingdom of Hawaii and we see it today in Syria and Iraq. This shouldn't surprise anybody who has been paying attention. Unfortunately, the general populace is kept in the dark by the majority of the "mainstream media".
Successive presidents could have used the powers vested in them to curb the power of the Saudis drastically. But they didn't. The defense industry needs to make more money after all.
