Someone, somewhere, recently posted a video with the title that Trump's lying wasn't about a disregard for the truth, but rather was simply a wanton display of power.  I didn't watch the video, but that's certainly an aspect to be considered.  I doubt that Trump consciously has such intentions, but as a habit learned from blustering his way through business problems, it may be a strategy which he has learned to employ because it has been effective in that context.  Given that Republicans overwhelmingly look to him for the truth on matters, and overwhelmingly distrust and disregard the mainstream media, it may be a strategy which has served him well.  The question is whether it will continue to do so in 2020.  His base will likely not be swayed by any downturn of events, as he will just blame it on the Democrats or others, and his base will unquestioningly believe it.  The big unknown is whether the swing voters, the independents, the former-Obama voters, and so forth will find his bluster as convincing in the face of significant negative results.  One study pointed to racism and sexism as having been the motivating factor for the former-Obama Trump supporters in 2016.  If their interests remain unchallenged by other motivations, such as the economy or ideological concerns for the truth, they may just vote for him again in 2020.

It may be the video that was posted here? IIRC it reported research by the RAND Corp. The act is called "firehosing" and the Russians are notorious for it. Since the chump is a Russian puppet, he may have learned it from them.

I've already seen one old coot in a red ball cap with a "Trump 2020"  logo on it.
