If someone breaks a promise, it's on them.  Hopefully when someone makes a promise, they go out of their way to keep it.

Hope in one hand, shit in another.  That's yet another added layer of perversity to this shitcake.  Daddy dearest knows full well how likely they are to keep such a promise.  He was a young boy once, presumably. 

I can only speak for myself here, but to me it's something I assume as being sacred and I don't use the word "promise" lightly.  If I promise something, I'm going to go above and beyond if necessary to uphold my end.  But if someone else views a promise differently, then they're going to act accordingly.

That's nice, dear...but teenage girls don't keep their purity promises...and there's no place that this is more obvious than exactly those places where purity promises are a thing, lol.  It's almost as if all of this pageantry and religious drama has precisely the opposite effect from which it was intended.............or something.

I agree with you that wonder can lead to knowledge, but not all knowledge is good knowledge.  That is why wisdom is always necessary.  If I know I can rob a bank without getting caught, it's up to me to make a choice.  Some may do it, others wouldn't.   I wouldn't, because I know it would hurt others.  Others may think the same way, and others would likely rob the bank because they value the consequences differently.
