Getting the other guys stuff is usually the point..though.....most of the gold we pilfered wasn't anybodies just yet, and we snatched a hell of alot more silver - but here too we actually mined and refined it. It's a pretty crazy story, I wrote a massive post about it on the boards..I'll see if I can find it for you if you'd like? In the case of the north american genocide, however, gold wasn't really the aim..nor was societal re-engineering. Just extermination.
