An atheist doesn't need an argument, they're only indicating that they don't believe in something.
When I tell the religious, for example, I'm certain that their gods don't exist...I'm referring to a very specific set of existential claims they make about that god. Not my own historic status of belief. I'm insisting that their gods are a product of psychology and culture, of ignorance and even simple mistranslation. That they exist as characters in a theologically important work but not as beings exterior to that work.
In short, it's not because I don't believe that gods exist that I'm certain that gods don't. It's because I know what gods are and exist as that I'm incapable of changing that historic status of belief. Some people, most atheists here at least...might agree with me on that if the subject is the judeochristian god - but defer to some other more nebulous god concept. They're not sure, in effect, that every god would be like that god.
I otoh, insist that my understanding describes the entire category of gods and god belief, not a specific god in that set.

I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
