Since WW2 and the fall of the Berlin wall, the idea was widely rejected by any human with a remaining bit of integrity and humanity, but building walls to separate people racially came back to the front pages of human tactics of war with the Israeli West Bank Barrier:

The situation is dangerous beyond description, we now have:
1-A state of emergency declared in the U.S -for reasons obviously not convincing-
2-A plan to make "the building of walls like the Berlin wall an accepted fashion worldwide".
