Are we really the expert authority?
Or the expert western authority?
I feel like there must be other countries better at it then us, like Saudi Arabia for example.
Oh yeah, Drich, I don't think you're retarded.
You might be an ignorant slut though. :-)
May I take it that you're an Australian?
Doesn't matter really; apart from incorrectly conflating refugees and migrants, you're actually right about Australia's treatment of refugees.
Australia's policy is to inter any uninvited refugees in off shore centres. This applies to men, women and children Sometimes for years.
This policy is in breach of human rights conventions to which Australia is signatory. Australia has been criticised in the UN and by Amnesty International for this policy. The response has been to ignore any criticism.
MY own position; it shames me.
BUT, please do not blame us for European idiocy. Our policy is bi partisan, the differences between the centrist Labor Party and the right wing Liberal party being one of degree. Pretty much a matter of a distinction without a difference.
Neither party has addressed the fundamental question of by what right are the refugees detained in the first place?
I should mention that this policy is accepted by the majority of Australians. if this were not case, it would be a major election issue, but it never has been. This reinforces my observation that Australia still has a major problem with race/Xenophobia. It seems to give the lie to the proud claim of being a multicultural society.
