What push? He was trying to keep the fans? I don't get what you're trying to say. Elvis was definitely losing popularity when psychedelic rock hit the scene, but I'm really not sure Jimi was considered the competition.

Fine let me try one more time 

1. Jimmy Hendrix appears and pushes counter cultural rock  and attracts white youth's 

2. A post civil rights white America's  freaks out because their idolizing a black musician 

3. Concerned they push people like Elvis to try and lure youths back to "acceptable rock "

4. Elvis gets a push during Hendrix run but the plan fails and counter cultural rock continues 

And no before you ask Elvis wasn't involved in this he had nothing but respect for Hendrix

Then Elvis should have come out, dazed on acid and set his upside down stringed guitar on fire.

Not in some crazy damn fringed one piece jump suit.

Jimi sure as hell wasn't trying to be the next Elvis.  If Elvis was trying to be like Jimi, he failed miserably.
