I don't think we ever 'get over' our mistakes.  If we did, the world would be filled with nothing but dispassionate arsewipes.

But, as has been said, we can embrace them and learn from them.  My past current mistakes are part and parcel of who I am.  At the very least, they've taught me to hesitate before doing something that stupid again.
