If we define technology as tool making, then there seems to be increasing consensus amongst anthropologists that technology didn't start with homo sapien, home erectus, or even the Australopithecus. In fact the first tool fabrication probably occurred well before our last common ancestor with the chimpanzee, because chimpanzee spontaneously fabricate tools, and has been shown to be able to learn to make stone tools.
So truly giving up technology means we must regress to a point where we must call the chimpanzees "too advanced".
