I started off by pointing out to Fierce that the claims of the Bible as a science book, (History or math as well) is pretty ridiculous mainly because of it's purpose. Seen in the context and understanding of it's time, for what it's purpose was I feel it's very effective. If you're trying to use the Bible as a taxonomy or mathematics handbook you're headed the wrong direction, IMO.
Side note-I do love unicorns and although I've never seen one personally, believe they exist because of the Bible (and a few other sources).
You are the one misinterpreting me for your own bias. I never made the claim that the bible is a science book. I stated quite clearly that if biblical authors had been inspired by a divinity that was omniscient, the bible would reflect this in every aspect; including aspects that are scientific in nature. It matters not the time period in which it was written if the writers were divinely inspired by an almighty being that understood the scientific workings of the world. Since what the authors have dictated does not reflect knowledge from a being who understands science, it can be quite reasonably ascertained that those writers were merely creating from their imaginations.
