As it currently stands what is characterised as "far left" is mild social democracy, the right is Austrian School economics with far right social policy and the centre is economically identical to the right while paying lip service to fairness on social issues. The dems* badly need to swing somewhat to the left, a large part of their problems (once you take out the elephant in the room of republitraitor vote stealing) being that to too many people there near indistinguishable to their opponents.
I have heard that what republicans call far left here, is moderate in most other countries. That's what's silly about it. I don't buy that Obama or Hillary could be considered far left.
