For some perspective....there’s no telling how many people attempt to commit suicide a year, in Japan. If the numbers here are representative of numbers there (or even close) it’s 25 to 1.
So, take that number if 30k, multiply it by 25, and then ask yourself what portion of those suicide attempts could have succeeded if access to firearms in Japan were similar to access here.
Then, remind yourself of the more tolerant view of suicide in Japan compared to the us.
- I’m not telling you that you have to give a shit, or that those lives, however many there are, are “worth it”. - only making sure that it’s blisteringly obvious that the number would be greater than zero.......lol.
Uh. The Wall Street Journal just did a piece. They gave the number of zero suicides by firearm. That's not surprising considering how few firearms there are there. But - it seems the Japanese are inventive enough to figure out a way.
If firearms increased the number of suicides - Israel would lead Japan in suicide because of the easy access to firearms.
But it doesn't.
