The first person to determine the size of Earth was Eratosthenes of Cyrene, who produced a surprisingly good measurement using a simple scheme that combined geometrical calculations with physical observations. Thats the guy. Drawed a blank, might be the onset of alzheimers. One of the few greeks that actually done something instead of thinking about thinking.

Actually, the Greeks did a helluva lot.  It isn't generally known, but they travelled to the ends of the Earth, naming stuff.  This is why things that the Greeks had nothing to do with have Greek names.  As soon as someone in Mesopotamia, say, or China, invented something, an ancient Greek would jump out of a nearby bush, give the invention a name, and take all the credit.

As Homer said, 'Never trust Greeks bearing passports.'
