Will someone kindly clarify - why so many Central and South Americans are " fleeing danger in their homeland" and coming to the US?

According to these folks - it's a pretty dumb choice - peace wise ...

As far as peaceful places to live -
the US comes in at #128 - well behind Chile, Costa Rica, Equador and El Salvador.

I'm just gue$$ing but there might be $ome other motivation$ going on.....
