I think perhaps part of the problem here is knowledge of current gun laws.
Are you aware there is NO registration of firearms - except for some states - which some have handgun or limited registration of some rifles?
I had my mind changed by a cop. He pointed it out - that with no handy list in his hand - he has no idea of how many guns anyone has - or where they are kept.
He further pointed out that no cop would want to mess with this sort of thing. For one - where are you going to put these guns? This sort of thing could RAPIDLY get out of hand. Some guys have gun collections worth huge money. Do you.want to be the officer who's sweaty fingers cause rust to form on a $50,000 Holland and Holland? Who is going to pay for that?
Hello!
I guess you're adressing myself.
That is a completely stupid system and would seem to be one of your problems right there.
Make people have a license first and use said revinue to help with thd coordination of data between the various authorities.
No liscence, no car. No liscence, no gun.
As for collectors? They have insurance, no? There's your gun data, easy-peasy.
Uhh...
No.
I had enough guns at one point that I had to take out extra insurance - as my homeowners would not have covered the loss. I asked my insurance agent if that info would or could be shared with law enforcement. (Just curious)
Answer - absolutely not. Covered by lawyer client confidentiality.
The "stupidity" of the laws isn't the subject.
But their restraint is why the red flag laws won't work.
And - trying to get everyone to register their guns?
Ask a Canadian. They tried that.
