Probably not.
Sure, it wouldn't work and actually all guns should be taken off people except some hunting weapons that qualified hunters use (like it is in most countries), but in a land like US, where even health care is seen as conspiracy for a boogeyman to kill people, there's no way. So US will always be a Wild West with cowboys, Indians and alike shooting at each other on the streets and other public places.
