I think many of those who make the blanket claims that everyone should be listened to and respected as if equal really are not arguing for equality. What they are doing is indulging in a inner sense of superiority over everyone else. They are saying "everyone is as good as equal beneath me, because I stand so high above that their differences with each other are insignificant from my lofty perch".
Such an attitude is par for the course with Bel. He comes off as if he truly believes he understands the world more than anyone else, because he reads a lot, or claims to.
If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth.
