Without chance mutations, natural selection is totally meaningless. Chance is the engine and my how lucky mammals have been and all by chance, just like the butterfly w owls eyes!

Yes, you are the misguided fool. ‘Chance’, in the form of mutations isn’t the engine, it’s the fuel. Selection is the engine.
You’re correct in saying that without chance mutations, selection is meaningless. This is because there would be nothing to select for. Selection is the method by which favourable mutations are preserved and inimical ones are weeded out. And THAT is what makes natural selection a non-random process.
