That's false. Taghut' means any object of worship other than God, it's certainly not disbelief per se.

Islam is literally the last religion one can hope to secularize, it just won't happen.
Let me ask you this : Is changing religion equivalent to changing socks according to you ? Since you take the verses literally, the Qur'an also says : Fitna' is more serious than murder. This really means undermining someone's most cherished beliefs is worse than killing him. If someone mocks beliefs publicly with the intent of causing political distress, he's commiting Fitna', a more serious crime than murder according to the Qur'an.
That is, losing an afterlife - i.e. going to hell - is logically a worse outcome than losing this life - Under the null hypothesis that there is an afterlife, of course. This is why apostasy is condemned in Islam, threatening belief in God is far worse than threatening life itself.
