Instead of whining about being so disliked, any rational person would look at them-self, and ask what they did to have EARNED such a reaction.
That couldn't help a committed evangelist. They can only imagine that they've earned the reaction by spreading gods word - just like magic book says. This is...ofc...exactly what the evangelist in question believes.
As a coherent and necessary product of their theological worldview, imagining otherwise would be disordered in a way unrelated to their religiosity. I suppose, in context, it's six of one or half dozen of another. If and when negative reactions from people serve the dual purpose of validating our religious beliefs and providing satisfaction - pious masochism.
