Can we compromise on it was their PC but it was also their server ... Linux guys (in particular) seem to have a reuse everything philosophy so I can easily envisage a Linux techy running a network for his or her house or whatever and also using it as his/her client PC.

Never seen it (tends to be a proud declaration of their hardware especially if they are some kind of AMD [SPIT!] whackhead) and I defo think that kind of behaviour goes more hand-in-hand with Linux evangelism but yeah, sure, being a Windows person doesn't imply you can't be a dick.
