I think we all agree that Trump is the dumbest president? Did he really say out loud that we could look into injecting people with disinfectant?
If he's that dumb, why does he have ANY followers at all

It's a cult. There is no other explanation. Those of us here who see him for what he is aren't going to understand the other side, any more than we understand willfully ignorant young-earth xtians.

Well, Last Podcast on the Left can help a long way towards that. They have several series on cults: their series on Aum Shinrikyo, the Children of God, Jonestown, and Heaven's Gate dwell quite a bit on the subject of how cult members end up becoming recruited (usually by recruiting vulnerable people and giving them something they don't have) and why many of them stay in, even as their beliefs get more and more insane (hint: it rhymes with dunk lost galaxy). They also have episodes on Manson, Scientology, Order of the Solar Temple, and Mormonism, though I haven't listened to those series in donkeys and don't remember if they dwell as much on the how and why in those cases.
