I actually read Book of Mormon once (well Audiobook of it) and i dont remember that part in the book. But i guess for whatever reason in the 70s they said God has made it ok if you are black, and they probably now view it as a symbolic curse. (But then again i have not asked what Mormons mean when they say that to begin with)
Although what is interesting with Racism and slavery is, USA had actual racism when it came to slavery so its why its mistrust even to this day that political groups have found ways to exploit peoples emotions on it. Unlike South America that also had slavery, but it didnt actually have racism. So they get along fine with one another
