I've heard lots of conservatives argue, poorly, for guns to defend civil liberties. Things they get right, though; guns don't actually make us more violent, and the places with the most guns are often the least violent places. As above, those aren't the reasons that our cops beat the living shit out of us.

Reason is USA are so used to guns is all. So a place where people are armed is the most safest place. Cops are so used to guns that the culture makes people more violent by default, if you live in a country where you can be shot any moment by a madman... that would make me mentally on the edge too.
