And fewer and fewer people want to be associated with him/it with every day that passes.

Trump needs to be a Pariah.  That is best for democracy, but it is also best long-term for the Republican party.

Republicans can praise Trump's policies while admitting he was a deeply flawed human being.

And given that, a few months ago, they decided against writing a new platform for the election (for the first time in recorded history), and chose instead to focus on the Trump cult of personality in lieu of literally anything else, not even an amendment for a COVID policy, I doubt that's going to happen. Hell, they haven't even come to terms with Biden winning the election. In 2016, I hoped that the whole Trump movement would end up being the moment where the GOP's Raskolnikov met Trump's Svidrigailoff, confronting someone who takes their policies to their logical and monstrous extremes, and four years later, it turned out, in this case, Raskolnikov and Svidrigailoff got along just fine. And the rest of the world is worse, and they wouldn't have it any other way.
