Maybe some people do have a need to believe in God, so what? It's probably a sign of psychological problems. Just like many men in Victorian England had a need to be whipped because they were whipped by teachers in schools.
Some people today still have a need to be tied down and whipped, so are we going to make some dumb conclusions that it is a human nature to be slaves? - Hardly, and the same goes with the need to believe in Gods and other fairytales. It's just a way that people were taught to deal with problems either by society or as a cultural meme.
Similar is also with many people who start smoking when they are in stressful situations - it's not because people naturally want to be coal miners and fill their lungs with sut, but that the society fails at teaching people how to deal with stress in other ways than smoking and believing in fairytales.
teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
