He may run as an independant.... Either way - he would trash the R hopes in the next election. He would not get enough votes as an R, and he would like H Ross, suck up enough otherwise R voters to prevent the R's from winning.Odds are, an strong Republican candidate (who isn't Trump) would, if nothing else, be mentally stable. It'd probably be easier to act against him. And, the funny thing about the "R Candidate who would have a good chance at winning" thing? Every election since I was born, a Republican has won the popular vote exactly once. And I should also point out that the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is a thing. At the moment, it has been signed into law by sixteen states with 196 electoral votes between them, with another five states with a total of 77 electoral votes pending. If Texas, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, and Virginia all join it before 2024, it comes into law, and, barring a change that actually makes them palatable to more than rich white men and their useful idiots, the Republican Party's chances at the Presidency, they dead.
BUT. If he can't run (because he got impeached) the R's can find a strong R candidate who would have a good chance at winning.
So - is it really worth it?
And supposing that Trump runs as an independent in 2024, if he loses, do you really think he'll be acting any different than he is now? Do you really think he won't try and have his supporters storm the Capitol ?
