Even if the threat itself is ludicrous, making such a threat is IMO a form of verbal and psychological abuse. When someone plays the hell card in a religious discussion, it tells me two things about them:
- They willingly worship an evil god that allows people to be tortured for a infinite period of time, in an utter travesty of justice.
- They don't understand that Pascal's Wager-style lip-service belief is not religious faith, or they don't actually care - they're more interested in coercing a public show of consensus via argumentum ad baculum.
